Melanin Doc is diversifying the face of medicine

Our Goal is to Level the Playing Field for Minority Pre-medical Students

US medical schools do not represent the US population & it is actually getting worse over time

2023 Harvard President's Innovation Challenge Winner in the Social Impact Track

What We Do

Peer Community

To combat imposter syndrome, we offer geography-based peer groups and a searchable national database of minority medical doctors.

Cover Application Fees

For those who can’t pay, we increase the number of schools they can apply to by covering application fees, test preparation costs, or transportation to interviews.

Know How

To address information asymmetry, we provide 1:1 longitudinal mentorship and guidance on the medical school application process

Lack of diversity within the healthcare workforce is detrimental for patients of color

Without a physician and academic medicine workforce that reflects the broader population, it will be challenging to eliminate racial disparities in health outcomes.

Our Melanin Doc community

"Representation matters. Receiving mentorship from a medical student that understood what it was like to be the only Black person in an intro biology class was instrumental to my mental health"

We envision a world where our doctors are representative of our population.

Where all medical applicants and medical students have a level playing field.

Where patients get high quality care regardless of their race.
